Gabba Gabba Hey!!!

Remember when these guys defined cool?

Of course you don't! But's that's all right by the Greatwhiteshark. Feelin fine after our first iTunes challenge.

Good fun. Not very good tunes by GWS standards, but good for the masses. Next time we'll have a Dead challenge and you'll have to name the tune plus the date and venue of the show!!!

Anyway, we (the royal we) think we need more iTunes challenges. But we need to make them a bit less challenging. Like, do we really need a foolish rowdy audience? Wouldn't it be better if we just brought our playas and rocked?

What do y'all feel on this one? Audience or no audience? What about having different genres? Like one week we could do psychedelic rock, the next we could do disco, or even (heaven forbid) country. What genres would you like to see out there for competition? And do you think they should be kept separate? Or would you like to do an event where each round is a new genre?

Also, wouldn't it be kind of dope to force armies to bring one of their DP overlords to play?

I'm looking into a buzzer system for 6 teams, BTW. Because the 3 buzzer system is all right, but 6 is mor better. Or, we could get one that "goes to eleven."

For five easy points: first STUDENT war council rep to post a comment that gives an opinion on some of the above idears AND tells us what the above quote references. Students ONLY for points in this contest. (Sorry MJL--like I told RMaddox earlier today, some things are just too easy for the DPOverlords....)

Would love to hear from more of you. Let's use this blog and get the idears flowing kind-like. Just click on the comment link and spout forth thy wisdom.

Cheers!

Weekend Events

hey hey hey dorm council

i will also post this on our blog: http://councilofwars.blogspot.com/
tis tuesday. that means the weekend is nigh. and that means DORM WARS.

The Dorm Council has ruled: From now on, 10 minutes late will mean a forfeit. Your army must send its team on time with the correct number of soldiers. It is your responsibility to feed this info to your armies.

originally, we planned to pack the weekend with dodgeball and flag football, but i have taken flag football off the table to save for Holderness weekend.

i'd be happy to put it back if you all think that a) you can rally the troops for 2 major events and b) you can find dorm parents who really want to get out and help ref.

flag football is potentially dangerous, so we absolutely need grown-ups to ref.

All School Challenge: During all school, we are going to play a game with trustees. It will be a kind of trivia game show. We need one volunteer from each army. It can be one of you or someone else. Please tell me who you will send ASAP.
This Challenge will be for 10 points to the winner. No 2nd or 3rd b/c it will be short.

Friday & Sat Nites, Dodgeball is our first tournament of the season. And here's how it's gonna work. We got 6 teams, so you ask, "How to make a bracket?" Well, we're going to draw one. For the first round, there will be two byes.

Armies will draw lots on stage during all school. Please decide which War Council rep will go up. Can be the same person who plays trustee game, or it can be someone else. We'll have seeds A-F.

Round 1-2: Friday night, 7pm. Each match is best 2 out of 3 games. 12 soldiers on a team.
You MUST HAVE 3 girls, 3 day students, and 3 underclassmen (sophs or frosh)!!!
(You could have 1 freshman day girl, though and that would cover three requirements at once).

Round 1
Seed A   vs    Seed B
Seed C  vs     Seed D

Bye: Seed E & F

Round 2
[Winner of A vs B]    vs    Seed E
[Winner of C vs D]   vs     Seed F

Winners Advance

Saturday: 8 pm. Championship Round
Friday's Winners play best 3 out of 5 games for championship.

First Place = 30 points
Second Place = 15 points

The Council Has Spoken

Voting on Protest #1 closed at 11:00 pm.

Results are now in: 21 of you voted.

Forfeit Stands; victory to Army #5: 14 votes

Final Score stands. Army #2 wins: 4 votes

OMG I can't decide: 3 votes

Sorry to Army #2 for your disappointment.

Thank you all for your participation in resolving our first dispute. Surely more will follow. And always remember what Coach Hurd always says about protests: There are three versions of the incident--what you saw; what they saw; and what really happened. We may never know the latter, but I hope that you will agree that this is the closest to fair that we can get.

Carry on warriors. Let there be no hard feelings. And forever let the spirit of the game guide you.

First Protest of TADW Season 1!!!

In Friday's kickball battles, a disagreement arose between Army 5 and Army 2. After Army 2 failed to produce more than 1 player, Ms. Bowdoin called a forfeit. A few minutes later, a couple of soldiers from Army 2 arrived and played in a "just for fun" game with the many soldiers from Army 5. The soldiers were all mixed up.
Then, a couple more Army 2 soldiers arrived. They now had a total of 5 players. At this point they said, "Come on, this is BS! We're here. Let's play! We'll take you on, just us five against your full team."

The time was between 6:45 and 6:50. It was nearly dark. Still, the armies battled for two and a half innings and then stopped with the score 8-4 in favor of Army 2.

Here's the question to the Council of Wars: How should this situation be resolved?
Before you jump to judgment, consider the following:

The Rules, as outlined on Blackboard:
Kickball Friday Eve: 6:30-7:15.
ALL GAMES MUST STOP AT 7:15. The score at that time is the FINAL SCORE.
If we all start at 6:30, we might be able to get in five innings. If your game reaches 5 innings before 7:10, the game is over at that time.
Army 2 v Army 5 Softball Field
Send teams of 15. 9 players on field at once. Mix them up.
Sign up here on Blackboard on the TAB that says TEAM SIGN UP.

Army #2 clearly did not arrive at kick-off time, which was 6:30. In fact, our game (Army 4 vs Army 6) was already well underway, in its second inning, when Mrs. Salit rode up on her bike to question if we had seen any sign of Army #2. That Army #2 was late is not a matter of dispute. It is a fact.

Also a matter of fact: nowhere in the rules is a specific time given before a team forfeits for not showing up to battle.

Ms. Bowdoin's decision to call a forfeit for the absent team was a matter of judgment based on the conditions on the field (i.e. falling darkness and Army #5's desire to at least play SOME game).

That Army #2 did not arrive with the stated number of players (the rules said: "Send teams of 15. 9 players on field at once. Mix them up.") is also not a matter for debate. Army #2 states that by the END of the game, they did have about 10 players. Army #5 didn't think they ever had that many. It was dark.

However, many Armies failed to send 15 soldiers. All other armies, at least to my knowledge, had at least 9, however--in other words all armies but #2 managed to produce enough soldiers to cover the positions in the game.

In Army #2's defense, Ms. Bowdoin did eventually accept their challenge of "us 5 take on." (Though there's debate as to whether or not the forfeit was ever officially called back). Then more soldiers from Army #2 arrived. And when both teams decided to call the game, Army #2 was winning 8-4.

According to Army #2, the game was abandoned after 2.5 innings because Army #5 started walking of the field. It was too dark to see anything, really, but Army #2 wanted to "finish it."

Incidentally, the game ended before 7:10 (the finish time given in All School) or 7:15 (the finish time given on Blkbd).

In order to resolve this situation fairly, please cast your vote for one of the following options ASAP. Voting closes at 11:00 Sunday night. PLEASE CLICK ON THIS LINK AND COMPLETE THE SURVEY:   http://bit.ly/8awAo
